George Thomas Flanagan was born on September 29, 1936 in Hartford, CT. He died in National City, CA, on June 6, 2017, the 58th wedding anniversary of he and his wife, Barbara Louise Cowles Flanagan.
Together they had four children: Virginia Louise Flanagan Landry, Thomas Patrick Flanagan (wife Michelle Tyler Flanagan), Kerry Barbara Flanagan (partner Keith Delong), and Erin Kathleen Flanagan. George is also survived by grandchildren and his sister, Margaret R. Lempitsky.
George attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and Weaver High School in Hartford, CT, and later, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. He graduated from Kings Point in 1958 and entered the U.S. Navy as an Ensign.
He served 21 years of active duty in the Navy and was selected to the rank of Captain prior to retiring in 1979. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and was awarded a Bronze Star.
